Biography
Wendy A. Luce, MD’s clinical interests include delivery room resuscitation, care of the extremely premature infant, infection/sepsis, congenital heart disease and NICU outcomes. She is actively involved in resident and nursing education, including the neonatal nurse practitioner program at The Ohio State University. Her research interests center on innate immunity, the cardiovascular response to sepsis in the neonate, and hypoplastic left heart syndrome and is a former council member for the Midwest Society for Pediatric Research. Originally a full-time physician scientist at OSU/Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Dr. Luce’s clinical interests and previous nursing experience led her to an opportunity to start a new Level III NICU. Her medical director role included unit physical and working design; patient care protocol development and implementation; physician, nursing and respiratory therapist education; running the nursery/NICU resident education program; directing the neonatal resuscitation team; and coordinating specialty services. Since returning to Columbus, her current clinical role includes prenatal counseling and patient care in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital NICUs at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Dublin Methodist Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Main Campus. As her practice clinical leader at Nationwide Children’s, Dr. Luce is actively involved in evidence-based patient care, patient and family advocacy, improving NICU outcomes, and a family-centered team approach to NICU care.
