Vonda Keels-Lowe, RN, MSN, CPN, PMHNP-BC, is a certified psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner as well as a certified pediatric nurse. She has been a practicing nurse for more than 20 years. She has spent the last several years as a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner with a focus on child and adolescent mental health at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and is also a member of the clinical faculty for the psychiatric/mental health graduate nursing specialty track at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capital University and her Master’s Degree from Wright State University College of Nursing in Child and Adolescent Health. She went on to receive a Post-Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program. Clinical areas of interest include child/adolescent trauma, caregiver stress, trauma-informed care and cultural competence.  In 2013, Vonda received a grant from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Women’s Board to develop a comfort room for the Child and Adolescent Unit at OSU Harding. The goal was not only to decrease seclusion and restraint, but also to have a warm, comforting space where patients could go to calm and de-stress earlier. This project has proven successful, and she is now working to create multiple similar spaces within the Behavioral Health Pavilion, which will open in early 2020.
