In 1920, idealistic intellectual Paul Deschanel was elected President of the French Republic, to the great disappointment of the favorite, Georges Clémenceau, considered by a large part of the population as the great winner of the 1914-18 war. Behind the scenes, the old politician, nicknamed the “Tiger,” strategizes to bring down his opponent. The latter, immersed in the writing of a speech that he feels will be crucial for the future of France, gradually loses contact with reality. Falling from a train in the middle of the night in the middle of the countryside, Deschanel is picked up and cared for by a railway trackman and his family.
