Biography

Rachel Stanley, MD, MHSA, is the Division Chief for Emergency Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Stanley has extensive accomplishments in clinical research and education. She developed the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Michigan in 2004 and has continued to support this program while at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She also has been continuously funded as a principal investigator of the Great Lakes Area Children’s Emergency Research node (GLACiER) of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) since 2008. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is currently a member of the PECARN node that Dr. Stanley currently co-leads. The GLACiER node has a proven track record in collaborative research development, securing extramural funding, enrollment, and implementation of science in both pre-hospital and ED settings. She previously served as the Chair of the overall PECARN Steering Committee. In 2012, Dr. Stanley founded the PECARN Future Investigator meeting and continues to lead this successful annual program. This is a formal mentorship meeting to prepare the next generation of EMSC researchers to foster the success of PECARN and advance the evidence base within pediatric emergency care. Dr. Stanley’s general research interests include traumatic brain injury and multi-center clinical trials in pediatric emergency medicine. She also has a strong interest in mentoring and developing the next generation of academic pediatric emergency physicians. Dr. Stanley was educated in her home country of Ireland, receiving her MD equivalent degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. After training in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics in Ireland, she came to the US and did an additional Pediatrics residency at the University of Connecticut, and completed a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston. In 2000, she moved to the University of Michigan, where she served as a faculty member and earned a Masters in Health Services Administration. Dr. Stanley will focus on expanding the academic activities of the Division as Division Chief for Emergency Medicine.
