The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, awarded an infrastructure grant of $67,560 to The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. A study by researchers at the Center for Injury Research and Policy showed that over 93,000 children younger than five years of age were treated in U.S. emergency departments each year from 1999 through 2008 for stair-related injuries. A colostomy is a surgical procedure performed on children who are unable to pass feces safely due to disease or anatomical defect.
