Nationwide Childrens Hospital celebrates today the grand opening of a four-story expansion on the campus west side. At approximately 85,000 square feet, the new structure will allow Nationwide Childrens to open the doors for growth in research jobs, as well as expansion of key clinical areas of need.This state-of-the-art facility will house Nationwide Children’s Hospitals Surgery Center, as well as Centers for Gastroenterology and Clinical Psychology. Two floors will also be dedicated to research, including the Center for Biobehavioral Health, the Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice and the Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine.The facility is just one part of Nationwide Childrens strategic master site plan. Additional components of the plan: A 12-story inpatient hospital, which broke ground in September 2008. The new hospital will add more than 700,000 square feet of clinical and research space to the existing two million square-foot downtown campus. It is slated to open in 2012, corresponding with the citys bicentennial celebration. Six acres of additional park space in front of the new inpatient building. A third research building projected at 150,000 square feet with construction to begin in 2010, slated for completion in 2012. A new 1,500-space parking facility which opened in early 2008. Ongoing expansion of academic faculty offices and educational space through renovation of existing inpatient facilities. A new green energy plant currently under construction.
