The Livingston Orthopedic & Surgery Center will break ground in Q4 2021, and is slated to open in 2024.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Nationwide Children’s Hospital announced today the Livingston Orthopedic & Surgery Center, which will break ground in the fourth quarter of 2021. The Livingston Orthopedic & Surgery Center will mark the completion of the hospital’s phase two master facilities plan which was announced in 2016 and included the Big Lots Behavioral Health Pavilion, Livingston Ambulatory Center, several parking garages and multiple support and office buildings, and Research Building 4, which will open in 2023. Adjacent to the Livingston Ambulatory Center located at 380 Butterfly Gardens Drive in Columbus, the Livingston Orthopedic & Surgery Center will open in 2024 and provide convenient, comprehensive orthopedic services, as well as easily accessible outpatient surgical services to patients and their families by relocating the hospital’s main campus surgery center from the main hospital to a new, standalone facility. The building will be approximately 270,000 square feet, and six stories tall, plus a basement and a mechanical penthouse. The all-in project budget is estimated to be $154M. “The Livingston Orthopedic & Surgery Center and Research Building 4 allow us to fulfill our promise of supporting children and families in our growing community and help us continue to fulfill our journey to best outcomes for children from central Ohio and around the world,” said Patty McClimon, senior vice president and chief strategy officer at Nationwide Children’s. “This dedicated and expanded space will allow for our orthopedic department and sports medicine specialists to provide high-quality, expansive multidisciplinary care within a destination type center to all of our patients and families,” said Dr. Kevin Klingele, MD, Nationwide Children’s Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Surgical Director of Sports Medicine. “The proximity to main campus and other subspecialities will ensure every orthopedic and sports medicine patient has access to some of the country’s best pediatric resources.” The new building will connect to the Livingston Ambulatory Center, and will be home to the following services:

Six operating rooms and four dental operating rooms – in addition to existing main campus operating rooms All comprehensive Orthopedic clinics including:  Center for Comprehensive Spine Care, Center for Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction, Hand and Upper Extremity Program, Center for Hip Preservation, Specialty Neuromuscular Clinic, Muskuloskeletal Oncology Program Multidisciplinary cerebral palsy and complex care clinic Sports medicine clinics, including adaptive sports medicine and functional rehabilitation services Sports and orthopedic physical therapy Radiology services, including plain film, MRI,EOS imaging and Ultrasound Orthotic and prosthetic fitting services An 11,000 square foot rehabilitation gym Honda Center for Gait Analysis and Mobility Enhancement
