Songs for Sound is an organization inaugurated by Kevin and Jaime Vernon (of Nashville, TN), parents of toddler and cochlear implant recipient, Lexi Vernon. In 2009, Lexi, at the tender age of 19 months, went from a silent world to hearing her mommy whisper, “I love you, baby girl.” It was on that miraculous day, when Lexi heard her family for the very first time, in which the Songs for Sound mission began – to improve the quality of life for profoundly deaf children worldwide by providing resources to give them the chance at a mainstream life. Songs for Sound provides the deaf community with resources for cochlear implants and rehabilitation, including speech/audiology services. Many people are moderately deaf and benefit from hearing aids. There is a large group of severe to profoundly deaf people who receive no benefit from hearing aids, but who can benefit from cochlear implants. Simply put, Songs for Sound was established to restore hearing to the deaf through the miracle of cochlear implants – to give the gift of sound through song, so they, too, can hear and heal through music.
