Hilliard, OH 43026 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Pediatric cancer survivors and their families have been invited to gather for Nationwide Children’s Hospital Survivorship Celebration Sunday at Homestead Park in Hilliard. The Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) staff will join in the reunion as they welcome back the children they once cared for and celebrate their lives. In addition to face painting, juggling, food and other reunion festivities, a one-mile survivor walk will begin at 2:15 p.m. Each year, more than 150 patients are diagnosed with cancer at Nationwide Children’s. And with total inpatient admissions and outpatient visits exceeding 13,000 annually, Hematology/Oncology & BMT at Nationwide Children’s is the largest facility of its kind in Ohio and one of the largest in the United States. Nationwide Children’s is part of the Children’s Oncology Group, an organization of pediatric oncologists, nurses, psychologists, surgeons and researchers that design protocols and conduct research which have brought the pediatric cancer survivorship rate to 80 percent in 2011. Nationwide Children’s also is designated as a National Institutes of Health Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is home to the Biopathology Center, the largest pediatric tumor registry in the country.
