Liberty Union High School will begin a partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine this month to provide sports medicine services and health and wellness education to student athletes. Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine will provide a certified athletic trainer to Liberty Union High School. The athletic trainer will be part of a team providing sports medicine expertise to the Liberty Union Lions athletes, coaches and staff. They will be on the sidelines at practices and games providing care for all Lions athletes. Services provided by Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine includes initial injury evaluation, management and rehabilitation, training optimization, injury prevention, concussion management and coordination of care with the sports medicine and orthopedics specialists of Nationwide Children’s. The entire team of experts works with the school’s staff to deliver cutting-edge and comprehensive sports medicine services to the Liberty Union schools and community. “We are extremely excited about our partnership with Liberty Union High School,” said Thomas Pommering, DO, medical director of Sports Medicine at Nationwide Children’s. “Athletes are constantly pushing themselves to reach their full athletic potential, so it is imperative they have access to a comprehensive team of specialists dedicated to the care and management of competitive, young athletes.” Nationwide Children’s currently partners with nearly a dozen other central Ohio high schools, as well as Ohio Dominican University.
