Biography
Laura Mackner, PhD, is a Principal Investigator in the Center for Biobehavioral Health, Psychologist in the Division of Pediatric Psychology and Neuropsychology, and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Her research focuses on improving the lives of children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease. Current projects include 1) developing and evaluating a peer mentoring program for improving self-management, 2) investigating long-term psychosocial outcomes in youth with IBD, following a cohort from diagnosis to their transition to adult care, 3) learning more about the educational experiences of youth with IBD, and 4) investigating interactions between stress and the intestinal microbiome. She also collaborates on projects focusing on self-management during young adulthood and the transition to adult care, healthcare disparities and barriers to good care, and quality improvement in pediatric IBD as she coordinates collaboration among the social workers and psychologists in the ImproveCareNow QI network.
