Biography
Laura Plachta, MD, is a member of the Section of Ambulatory Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She also is a member of the AAP Section on Breastfeeding and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and a pediatrician at Emerald Pediatrics. Dr. Plachta’s clinical work involves care of healthy newborns at The Ohio State Medical Center Well Baby Nursery. She is the primary attending on this busy unit and trains house staff including pediatrics, internal-medicine pediatrics and family medicine. Skills include physical exam and circumcision. Lectures include such topics as parent education, breastfeeding, jaundice, congenital infection and the newborn screen. Dr. Plachta has served as physician leader of the nursery in Quality Management Committee and has chaired a breastfeeding committee. She also is involved in nurse education and ongoing improvement of computer systems that support the nursery.
