John David Spencer, MD, is chief of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Principal Investigator in the Center for Clinical and Translational Research in The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Spencer’s NIH-funded research focuses on defining the molecular mechanisms that regulate and prevent infections in the kidney and urinary tract, with an emphasis on the role that antimicrobial peptides play in maintaining sterility in the urinary tract.

Dr. Spencer’s research focus is attempting to understand the mechanisms operational in maintaining sterility and preventing infection in the kidney and urinary tract. Specifically, he and his team are interested in defining how antimicrobial peptides, a ubiquitous component of the innate immune system, maintain urinary tract sterility. His long-term goals are to determine the precise role that antimicrobial peptides play in the regulation and prevention of urinary tract infections. Publications

Dr. Spencer’s research focus is attempting to understand the mechanisms operational in maintaining sterility and preventing infection in the kidney and urinary tract. Specifically, he and his team are interested in defining how antimicrobial peptides, a ubiquitous component of the innate immune system, maintain urinary tract sterility.
