Biography
Dr. Mayerson’s clinical interests focus on innovative reconstructive surgery for bone and soft tissue tumors of the extremities and pelvis. He serves as professor of orthopaedic Surgery at The Ohio State University, for which he received the Educator of the Year Award from both the orthopaedic surgery residents (2009) and The Ohio State University medical students (2003, 2008 and 2013). He is the author of over 70 peer-reviewed manuscripts on topics in the areas of orthopaedic oncology and orthopaedic education. Dr. Mayerson is the chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Oncology at The Ohio State University, director of Sarcoma Services for The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, and the program director of the orthopaedic surgery residency program as well. He serves on many committees at Ohio State as well as several national committees, including as chair of patient education committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is on the executive board of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and in the Presidential line of the Ohio Orthopaedic Society. He is a member of the committees for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network that determine national guidelines for both bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Dr. Mayerson graduated summa cum laude from The University of Toledo and received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University College of Medicine. He received residency training from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric orthopaedic oncology at University of Washington Medical Center. Dr. Mayerson is voted among the Best Doctors in Americaand the Best Cancer Doctors in America.
