Jacob C. Langer, MD, is a pediatric general and thoracic surgeon whose primary interest is the development of new ways of managing children with Hirschsprung disease, anorectal malformations, inflammatory bowel disease and other intestinal disorders, as well as new advances in the field of minimally invasive pediatric surgery. He has traveled widely to operate and to lecture on these and other pediatric surgery topics. Dr. Langer was educated and trained at the University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He did research fellowships at the University of California - San Francisco and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He has written more than 325 papers in peer-reviewed journals and over 75 book chapters on a variety of topics, and also edited the textbook, Pediatric Minimal Access Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Langer has served on the medical advisory boards of the American Pseudo-obstruction and Hirschsprung’s Disease Society (APHS) as well as Research Education and Awareness for Children with Hirschsprung Disease (REACH), and he is on the steering committee for the Hirschsprung Disease Research Collaborative. He has also been a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Endosurgery and Innovative Techniques, Pediatric Surgery International and the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery. He has been chair of the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA) Informatics and Nominating committees and sat on numerous other APSA committees.
