(From the November 2022 Issue of MedStat) Homecare Celebrates 32 Years of Service This year the Homecare management team, led by vice president, David Wessells, worked with Nationwide Children’s Planning to develop and begin to implement a five-year strategic plan, which supports the growth of services most needed by our patients and their providers. As part of the strategic plan, Homecare refined its Mission Statement: At Nationwide Children’s Hospital Homecare, it is our mission to give all children the best life possible at home by providing expert, collaborative, family-centered care. The Vision Statement captures the aspirational vision for the future: To be the premier home care and hospice program recognized for its excellence in quality, evidence-based care, research and equitable access. In 2023, the Homecare team plans to continue to reach out to providers and ask for input. Watch for opportunities for One Team meetings with inpatient providers and their staff and surveys provided by physician liaisons. Homecare has come a long way in 32 years. Starting in an actual house on 18th Street, Homecare now occupies almost two full floors of space at 255 E. Main Street. In 2022, Homecare’s Pharmacy and HME space practically tripled their footprints. The new larger facilities mean both Pharmacy and HME can provide more services, from home infusions to enteral nutrition, as well as medical equipment and supplies, to answer more patient needs in additional counties. This year Homecare also constructed a new Skills Lab at our offices where nurses and therapists receive simulated training and instruction as part of their onboarding and throughout their tenure. This new facility will enable Homecare’s clinicians to achieve best outcomes for patients. November is Home Care, Hospice and Palliative Care month. Since 2011, NovemBEARD has raised more than $225,000 for the Hospice and Palliative Care program. Homecare’s Hospice and Palliative Care is the only program of its kind caring for medically complex infants and children with end-of-life or life-limiting illnesses in the central Ohio community.
