Melissa Holtzlander, MD, is an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She did her undergraduate training at Youngstown State University and her postgraduate training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Holtzlander did her residency, a year of chief residency, and completed her Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Holtzlander is the pulmonary director of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Thoracic Dystrophy Program and one of the co-directors of the Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Clinic. She is a sub-editor for the Pediatric Quick Hits section of the American Thoracic Society. She serves on many local and regional committees, including the Cystic Fibrosis Patient Family Advisory Board, and the Pre-Admission Pathway Committee. Her clinical interests include the evaluation and management of children with a variety of respiratory illnesses, including asthma, PCD, Cystic Fibrosis, chronic lung disease, thoracic dystrophies and ventilator dependency. Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Clinic Our multi-disciplinary PCD clinic started in 2021 and received PCD Foundation accreditation in December 2021. At this clinic, patients with known or suspected ciliary disorders undergo pulmonary and ENT evaluation and have access to a dietitian, genetic counselor, mental health coordinator and social worker. Testing available at the clinic includes spirometry, nasal nitric oxide and genetic testing if indicated.
