Maria Widmann, MD, FAAP, is an attending physician in the Section of Hospital Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. She is the newly appointed hospital pediatrics Big Lots Behavioral Health Pavilion medicine director. Dr. Widmann completed her undergraduate and medical school training at The Ohio State University. She completed her pediatric residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh before joining their Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine as an attending physician and assistant professor in 2018. Dr. Widmann returned to Columbus and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in July 2020. Dr. Widmann is a core faculty member of the Pediatric Hospital Membership fellowship program at Nationwide Children’s and is an active member of the program’s scholarship oversight, clinical competency and education committees. She is a pediatric resident mentor and a member of multiple OSU College of Medicine academic committees. She is involved in developing clinical pathways and protocols related to the care of patients with complex medical and behavioral health needs. Dr. Widmann’s clinical and research interests include standardization of care through developing clinical pathways, recognizing and managing diagnostic uncertainty, and optimizing patient care through improvements in communication, quality, efficiency, safety and family-centeredness.
