Circle Of Friends Seventh Annual Run For The Rainbow June 19

Circle of Friends, a volunteer organization supporting Nationwide Childrens Hospital, will host its Seventh Annual Run for the Rainbow 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run Friday, June 19 at New Albany Market Square, 180 Market St., New Albany, Ohio. Proceeds from Run for the Rainbow benefit pediatric cancer research at The Research Institute at Nationwide Childrens. Over the past 15 years, Circle of Friends has raised nearly $1.5 million for the fight against pediatric cancer.Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. with races beginning at 6:40 p.m. (Kids Fun Run), 7 p.m. (5K Run) and 7:05 p.m. (5K Walk). Registration fees are $15 for the Kids Fun Run and $25 for the 5K Run/Walk. After June 10, registration is $20 and $30 respectively.Run for the Rainbow is held on a certified course and features exciting activities for the whole family. This years race offers chip timing and all participants will receive a technical shirt. Awards will be given to the top finishers in each race.New this year, deployed troops will race in Run for the Rainbow overseas with an expected turnout of nearly 500 participants. A fishbowl placed on the table for donations had collected $300 by nights end, which marked the beginning of what would become Circle of Friends. The gathering began as a grassroots celebration of the Puleris niece, Angela Weber, and her remission from childhood leukemia. It took on a new meaning in 1998 when Webers 6-year-old friend, Aaron Kraut, lost his nearly five-year battle with the same disease. Over the past 15 years, Circle of Friends has raised nearly $1.5 million with 100 percent of the proceeds designated exclusively to cancer research.
