Biography

Christopher J. Westgarth-Taylor, MD, is Director of Colorectal Surgery for the Center of Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction (CCPR) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Westgarth-Taylor graduated from Stellenbosch University Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa and trained in general surgery in the United Kingdom and South Africa, before completing a Pediatric Surgical fellowship at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s Dr. Westgarth-Taylor worked for more than a decade at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto, South Africa, where he started the first dedicated pediatric colorectal and pelvic reconstruction unit in Africa which served a large population of patients with complex colorectal issues from all over Africa. He is also a founding director of “Surgeons for Little Lives,” a charitable organization aimed at improving the care of pediatric surgical patients in Johannesburg, and he has traveled extensively to multiple developing countries to operate and educate local surgeons on advanced colorectal surgery. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a fellow of the College of Pediatric Surgeons of South Africa. He has also been on faculty at many national and international colorectal congresses, and authored numerous peer-reviewed pediatric colorectal surgery publications.
