More than half of the children Nationwide Children’s Hospital serves have health insurance through Medicaid, the government program for families with certain challenges. As of February 1, 2023, there is a change in Ohio’s Medicaid system. Many families won’t notice a difference. Some, especially those who are new to Medicaid, may have questions about the system and the way insurance covers their health care. Nationwide Children’s is committed to continuing to offer world-class care to families and children in Ohio during this changing time. Here’s what you need to know: Almost all of Ohio’s children on Medicaid are now covered by 7 insurance plans. Nationwide Children’s has agreements with 6 of them:
AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio Buckeye Health Plan CareSource Ohio Humana Healthy Horizons Molina HealthCare of Ohio UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Ohio
Nationwide Children’s does not have an agreement with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicaid plan.
As of February 1, 2023, most care at Nationwide Children’s is not covered by this plan.
What does this mean?
For now, Nationwide Children’s will continue to provide health care to families who have Anthem’s Medicaid plan.
Please keep your appointments with us and visit our Close To Home Centers, Urgent Care Centers and Emergency Departments when you need them. Nationwide Children’s will work with Anthem to cover the cost of that care.
This does not affect you if you have Anthem insurance through your work. This only affects families who are enrolled in Medicaid.
Families can change plans until May 1, 2023.
To make sure that no services are interrupted going forward, families may consider switching their coverage to a plan that does have an agreement with Nationwide Children’s. Visit OhioMH.com and click “Select a Plan Online” under “I Would Like to Select My Plan,” or call 1-800-324-8680.
We are here to help. If you have questions, please call Nationwide Children’s financial counselors at (614) 722-2070. We’re grateful to be your partners in creating healthy futures for children.
