Mission Statement The Advanced Competency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) for pediatric trainees, fosters and encourages interest in OMM through sustained learning opportunities and practical experiences as they relate to patient care, clinical operations, quality improvement, patient safety and provider efficiency in using osteopathic medicine. This will be accomplished through didactics, experiential learning and mentoring by faculty and fellows. Goal

Develop and apply osteopathic manipulation skills in the pediatric clinical setting.

Objectives Through participation in this program, residents will be able to:

Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of OMM principles. Apply OMM principles to treatment of pediatric patients.

Assessments

Opportunity to demonstrate hands-on OMM practice during OFED and OMM elective OMM-focused scholarly project

Learning Methods

Quarterly attendance at OFED Experiential learning through active participation in monthly Hilltop Journal Club Annual retreat with resident-focused didactics, OMM-related discussions and OMM practice

Program Requirements Commitment

Must complete formal commitment to the program Begin in the first year of residency (second half of the academic year) In-person attendance at quarterly OFED and annual retreats Will not have protected time for any other advanced competency Suggested OMM elective either second or third year Strongly suggested community/rural medicine elective either second or third year

Mentoring

Mentors will include Nationwide Children’s Hospital and community-based osteopathic physicians.

Scholarly Work Product

Residents will be expected to work on an OMM focused academic project during their time in the Advanced Competency.
